How to set up multi-factor authentication (MFA) in Parqet

Written by Niklas Klamm

What is multi-factor authentication?

Multi-factor authentication is a security measure that asks users to provide two or more pieces of evidence (factors) to confirm access to their account. These factors can be something you know (like a password), something you have (like a smartphone), or something that is a personal and individual characteristic (like a fingerprint).

Multi-factor authentication protects your account by making sure that someone who knows your password can’t access your account without the second factor.

How to set up multi-factor authentication in Parqet

Setting up multi-factor authentication is very easy and is done in your profile in the web app. After that, the login factor is requested for every login attempt (web app and mobile apps).

Step 1: Open your Account settings

Go to your Account settings and choose the “Multi-factor authentication” section.

Step 2: Choose a name for the MFA method

Click “Set up new MFA method”. You can add up to 3 methods, so each one needs a name. Enter it (e.g. “iPhone Auth App”) and click “Start”.

Step 3: Choose your authenticator app

Parqet now shows you a QR code. You can scan it with an authenticator app. We recommend the following apps:

  • Google Authenticator (iOS/Android): A popular choice with a simple interface.

  • Authy (iOS/Android): Offers a backup feature that is especially useful when you switch devices.

  • Microsoft Authenticator (iOS/Android): Another solid choice that works seamlessly with Microsoft accounts.

  • Password managers like 1Password: Many password managers, such as 1Password, have a built-in authenticator feature that Parqet supports.

Step 4: Scan the QR code (or enter the code below the QR code)

Open your authenticator app and scan the QR code shown on the screen. This links your Parqet account to the app. If you can’t scan the QR code, you can enter the code below the QR code.

Step 5: Confirm the setup

Enter the 6-digit code your authenticator app generates to complete the setup.

Done – your account is now even better protected!

Your account is now protected with an additional level of security. Every time you sign in to Parqet, you’ll be asked for your password and the code generated by your authenticator app. In the same section, you delete a method with the trash can icon. If you delete the last method, MFA is turned off again.

Parqet doesn’t support SMS-based multi-factor authentication. MFA also works if you sign in with Apple, Google or Facebook. After you sign in, Parqet then asks for the code from your authenticator app.

Have you lost access to your authenticator app, for example after switching phones? Parqet doesn’t offer backup codes. Write to us via our contact form (topic “Account & Subscription”). After a short review, we’ll remove MFA from your account. You can then set it up again.
