Why can’t I enter price, shares and total when creating an activity?

Written by Niklas Klamm

In an activity, you can enter the price, the number of shares and the total. To make entering easier, one of the three fields is automatically locked, because it can be calculated automatically from the other two.

Next to each of the three fields, there’s a sum sign (Σ). If you click it, Parqet calculates this value (“Calculate this value”). By default, the total is locked and calculated as price times number of shares. Price and number of shares are shown most precisely on your broker’s trade confirmation. So it’s best to enter these two.

The total doesn’t include taxes and fees. You enter those in the separate “Taxes” and “Fees” fields.

You can’t enter all three values at the same time, because that usually causes rounding errors. This can lead to inaccurate performance.
