CSV import: Import activities from your own CSV file

CSV file structure, required columns, allowed values and an example for importing your own activities

Written by Niklas Klamm

You can use the CSV import with any plan.

With your own CSV file, you import activities for which there’s no Autosync and no PDF import. For example from an Excel spreadsheet or from a broker that Parqet doesn’t support.

If you use a broker with Autosync, you don’t need a CSV file. More on this: Which brokers does Autosync support

File structure

  • The first row is the header row with the column names.

  • Separate the columns with a semicolon (;).

  • Each following row is one activity.

  • Column names aren’t case-sensitive.

Columns

The table shows all columns. “type”, a date, an identifier, and the price with the number of shares are required. The columns “tax” and “fee” must be in the header row, but you can leave their values empty.

Writing numbers correctly

  • Write numbers without a thousands separator: 1234.56 instead of 1,234.56.

  • Parqet recognizes both a comma and a period as the decimal separator.

  • For sells, enter the number of shares as a positive number: 0.5 instead of -0.5.

Example

date;price;shares;tax;fee;type;assetType;identifier
2021-01-04;105,20;0,950570342;0;4,99;Buy;Security;US0378331005
2021-06-15;130,00;0,5;0;4,99;Sell;Security;US0378331005
2022-01-01;41935,56;1;0;0;Buy;Crypto;BTC

Importing the CSV file

  1. Open the portfolio.

  2. Drag the CSV file onto the dashboard. Or click “Add activities” at the bottom right, then “File import (PDF/CSV)” and “Select files”.

  3. Check the recognized activities and click “Import all”.

Importing cash and interest

You import deposits, withdrawals and interest for a cash holding with the column “holding”. The steps and the CSV template for cash are in Import cash & interest via CSV file.

Common questions

Parqet doesn’t recognize my file.

Check the header row. The columns “type”, “date” or “datetime”, “identifier” (or “isin”) or “wkn”, “price”, “shares”, “tax” and “fee” must be present. Check the separator: semicolon.

A row is missing after the import.

Check the value in the “type” column. Parqet skips rows with an unknown type without any notice. Allowed values are Buy, Sell, Dividend, Interest, TransferIn and TransferOut.

A number is wrong, for example 1.234 instead of 1,234.

You used a thousands separator. Remove it and import the row again.

I see “Invalid activity date”.

The date must be after January 1, 1990. It can be no more than one year in the future.

A security can’t be found.

Check the ISIN or WKN. If the security is missing in Parqet, read My security can’t be found.
