As soon as you create a sell activity, Parqet automatically calculates the original buy value, the average holding period and the realized gain. In Parqet’s “Activities” tab, you can view your average holding period for sold holdings.
To do this, filter in the “Activities” tab via “All activities” → “By type” → “Sell”:
Viewing the average holding period
Then, for the sell activity you want, click the icon next to “Sell” (“Show more details”) or the three dots → “Details”. You then see the buy value, the sale value (“Sold”), the realized gain or loss (“Realized”) and the average holding period (“∅ Holding period”). Buy value, sale value and realized gain are calculated excluding fees and taxes.
You can view this information for every sell activity, even if you didn’t sell a holding completely.
How is the holding period calculated?
Parqet assigns the bought shares to each sell according to your portfolio’s calculation method. You set the method in the dashboard via the gear icon (Portfolio settings) under “Calculation method”:
FIFO (First In, First Out): The shares bought first are sold first. The holding period is the average of the holding periods of these buys, weighted by the number of shares.
LIFO (Last In, First Out): The shares bought last are sold first.
Average cost method: Parqet uses the average of all buy dates of your position.
If you change the method, the buy value, realized gain and holding period of all sells in this portfolio change.
If you transferred shares via a transfer in (for example with a brokerage account transfer), the holding period starts on the day of the transfer in, not on the day of the original buy.
