If your price gain doesn’t match “Value minus Entry”, it’s usually because of the selected period. You choose the period at the top right of the dashboard or on a position’s page (for example “YTD”, “1 year”, “Since buy”).
How does Parqet calculate the price gain?
Parqet always shows a position’s value and entry as of today, no matter which period you select. The price gain, on the other hand, only applies to the selected period:
Since buy: price gain = current value minus the entry value of the shares you still hold. Fees are not included.
All other periods: price gain = current value minus the value on the day before the period starts. If you buy more during the period, the purchase amount is added to that value.
Example: You hold 25 shares, entry price (your price per share, excluding fees) €242.20, current price €197.61. On December 31, the price was €208.35. “Since buy” shows −€1,114.75 (25 × €197.61 − 25 × €242.20). “YTD” shows −€268.50 (25 × €197.61 − 25 × €208.35).
What isn’t included in the price gain?
Sells: Gains and losses from sells appear under “Realized”. They are always calculated against your original purchase price, even for shorter periods. If you sold shares during the period, the price gain only measures the remaining shares against the price at the start of the period.
Dividends: appear separately under “Dividends”.
Which shares count as sold in a sell depends on your portfolio’s calculation method (FIFO, LIFO or average cost method). More on this: Viewing the average holding period of sold shares.
