What is the Autosync holdings sync?
Without the holdings sync, Parqet calculates the composition of your portfolio only from your transaction history (buys, sells, distributions, etc.).
The problem: A single missing or misread transaction on the broker's side is enough, for example due to deleted or missing documents. Then your holdings in Parqet no longer match those at your broker. To avoid this and always show you an exact picture of your portfolio, we use the holdings sync.
How does the holdings sync work?
We combine the best of both worlds: transaction history and live holdings. If you use Autosync, we keep importing your regular transactions. In addition, with every sync Parqet compares your current holdings and entry prices (your price per share, excluding fees) with your broker's data.
At that point, Parqet records how many shares you hold and at what entry price. The share counts in Parqet then match those in your broker app. Small differences in the entry price are possible (see below).
Individual settings for your sync
You can choose individually which asset classes should be included when your broker reports your holdings:
Securities & Crypto: If this option is enabled, Autosync sets the holdings of your securities and crypto positions exactly to the values reported by your broker. This is independent of the transaction history imported so far.
Cash: If this option is enabled, the balances of your cash holdings are also updated to your broker's values, independent of the transaction history.
Why does my portfolio value jump when Autosync runs?
Because brokers calculate and report their data differently, your portfolio may see minor adjustments after a sync:
Entry prices: By default, Parqet currently calculates purchase values without fees, while some brokers show entry prices including fees in their dashboards. This can cause a minimal jump in invested capital.
First in, first out vs. average price: By default, Parqet calculates entry prices using the FIFO method, which is also how gains are determined for tax purposes in Germany. In the portfolio settings, you can choose LIFO or the average cost method (in German) instead. Some brokers report weighted average prices in their dashboards (even if they apply the FIFO principle in the background). In this case, we use the value reported by your broker.
Brokerage account transfers: When securities are transferred, brokers usually don't show entry prices for the specific transactions. In this case, we use the entry price from the broker dashboard and try to back-calculate and enter the actual entry price at the time of the transfer. Until then, the price on the day of the transfer is used as a fallback entry price. The correction can change your invested capital.
Missing entry prices: Some brokers set entry prices to €0 after spin-offs or transfers. Here too, we use the broker's data. If the values reported by your broker differ from what you expect, please contact your broker.
Without holdings sync:
With holdings sync:
Delayed documents for savings plans and buys: You may have executed a savings plan (in German) or made a new buy today, but your broker's official settlement document isn't available yet. For some brokers, we temporarily create a transfer in activity for this at the very beginning of your portfolio history. As soon as the real document is available at your broker and the next sync runs, we automatically replace this temporary placeholder with the correct transaction. This way, your holdings are correct right away, even if the bank still needs time for the settlement.
How do I enable / disable the holdings sync?
When you create a new Autosync portfolio in Parqet and connect it to your broker, the automatic holdings sync is enabled by default. You don't need to do anything else.
If you already have an older Autosync portfolio, you can create a new one instead. The holdings sync is active there from the start. If you then delete the old portfolio, your manual changes in it are lost.
For existing Autosync portfolios, you can manually enable or disable the feature at any time with a few clicks:
Open your portfolio and click the “Settings” gear icon in the top right.
Go to the “Autosync” section.
Under “Synchronize holdings”, check “Securities & Crypto” and “Cash”. If you uncheck a box, you turn off the sync for it. Then click “Save changes”. In the mobile app, you'll find the same toggles via the gear icon in the dashboard under “Synchronize holdings”.
