Cryptocurrencies

Written by Niklas Klamm

Besides stocks and ETFs, you can also track cryptocurrencies with Parqet. They belong to the asset class “Cryptocurrency” and have the product type “Cryptocurrency”. This article explains how to add them.

You can use the search to check whether Parqet knows a cryptocurrency. Each cryptocurrency has its own page with its price. If you can’t find one, contact us via our contact form (topic “Data (Prices, News, Logos, Sectors)”).

How many cryptocurrencies can I add?

In the Basic plan, you can use up to five additional assets. These include cryptocurrencies, cash holdings, precious metals, real estate and other assets, across all your portfolios combined. Securities don’t count. With a Plus or Investor subscription, there is no limit (see pricing).

Creating activities for cryptocurrencies

You have three options:

File import: Many crypto exchanges are supported, for example Kraken (in German) and Bitpanda. For many activities, you can also download our CSV template, enter your activities and import it as usual via file import.

Manual: Click “Add activities” at the bottom right, then “Manual”. Select “Cryptocurrencies”, search for the cryptocurrency and enter the details.

Manual activity form with the asset type menu open and Crypto selected

Autosync: Some brokers transfer cryptocurrencies automatically via Autosync.

For cryptocurrencies, the activity types “Buy”, “Sell”, “Transfer in”, “Transfer out” and “Taxes & Fees” are available.

Swapping one cryptocurrency for another (swap)

Activities in Parqet always have an amount in a regular currency such as euros. That’s why there is no separate activity for swapping one cryptocurrency for another. Enter the swap as a transfer out and a transfer in. Example: You pay for 1 Ethereum with 0.06 Bitcoin. First create a transfer out of 0.06 Bitcoin, then a transfer in of 1 Ethereum.

Staking and rewards

There is no separate activity type for staking or rewards. You can’t enter dividends or interest for cryptocurrencies. Enter coins you receive as a transfer in.

Would you like a separate type for this? Vote for it in the feedback tool.

Connecting cryptocurrencies to a reference account

With a reference account (in German), Parqet automatically deducts buys from a cash holding and books sells to it. You set which assets this applies to on the cash holding: three dots → “Manage” → under “Reference account for”, check “Cryptocurrencies” (on its own or in addition to “Securities”). Only one cash holding per asset class can be the reference account.

Cryptocurrencies in the dashboard

In the dashboard, cryptocurrencies appear in their own “Cryptocurrencies” section. Each cryptocurrency has its own page with a chart, price history and performance.

With a Plus or Investor subscription, you can filter the dashboard by the asset class or product type “Cryptocurrency”.

Adding cryptocurrencies to a watchlist

If you’re interested in the price development of cryptocurrencies that aren’t in your portfolio, you can add them to a watchlist (in German). Find them via the search and add them to a watchlist as usual.
