In Parqet, you can add the precious metals gold, silver, platinum & palladium to your portfolio. They belong to the asset class Commodity and have the product type Commodity. With a Plus or Investor subscription, you can filter the dashboard by the product type “Commodity”. This way, you see your precious metals separately from securities.

Key points at a glance:

  • Precious metals currently have to be added manually

  • Parqet updates the prices of precious metals automatically (spot prices)

  • If you like, you can add the same precious metal in different holdings (for example, to look at a gold bar separately from a gold coin)

  • You set the weight and purity yourself. You enter the purity in parts per thousand (e.g. 999). If you choose “Gram” as the unit, Parqet calculates the precious metal content from weight and purity. If you choose “Ounce” (troy ounce), the weight already is the precious metal content and the purity doesn’t count.

  • You can record complete purchases as well as savings plan purchases

In the Basic plan, you can use up to five additional assets. These include precious metals, cash holdings, cryptocurrencies and other assets except securities, across all your portfolios combined. With a Plus or Investor subscription, there is no limit.

  • You enter precious metals manually. Autosync, CSV and PDF import aren’t available for them. Feel free to tell us via our contact form (topic “Data Import: PDF/CSV/Manual”) which providers you use and which export options for transactions (e.g. CSV or PDF) they offer. 👍

Adding the purchase of a complete gold product

Let’s say you bought a 100 g gold bar from a gold dealer you trust.

Creating the precious metal holding

Click “Add activities” at the bottom right, then “Manual”. Select “Physical Precious Metals” and click “New commodity holding” in the search.

In a second step, you define the gold bar you bought. In this case, the gold bar has a purity of 999 and weighs 100 grams. You can choose any name.

Example: gold bar

In the next step, you define the transaction.

You have the following purchase details:

“Thank you for purchasing the 100 g gold bar from the brand Parqetto-Gold at a price of EUR 7,730.99 on October 2, 2024.”

Here’s what you enter in Parqet:

Date: October 2, 2024

Price: €7,730.99

Total: €7,730.99

If taxes or fees were incurred, you can enter them in the details. Usually there are no “direct fees” when you buy precious metals. If you like, you can still enter them as a theoretical value (the spread between the gold dealer’s buying and selling price).

Manual buy form for the gold bar holding: date October 2, 2024, price 7,730.99 EUR, shares 1, total 7,730.99 EUR

Example: gold bar

💡 Note: If you use a reference account, precious metal purchases are only deducted from it if you’ve set it up that way. To do this, open the three dots on the reference account → “Manage” and check the option “Physical Precious Metals” under “Reference account for”.

Adding a gold savings plan

Various providers offer so-called gold savings plans. In the most popular model, you always buy fractions of a larger gold product, e.g. of a 1 oz gold coin or a 100 g gold bar. Once you’ve reached the target amount, you can have the complete product delivered to you.

In this case, you’re saving toward a gold coin weighing 1 oz.

Creating the precious metal holding

Click “Add activities” at the bottom right, then “Manual”. Select “Physical Precious Metals” and click “New commodity holding” in the search.

Adding precious metals manually

In a second step, you define the investment goal, i.e. one whole gold coin. In this case, the target weight of the bullion coin is one troy ounce (1 oz).

Once you’ve defined the holding, you don’t need to define it again. From then on, you only add the transactions. In this case, the gold dealer gives us the following information about the savings plan:

“We were able to buy 0.0428 shares of a 1 oz gold coin for you at the reference price of €2,337.80 on August 26, 2024.”

There are often transaction overviews, too (example: Degussa):

Degussa gold savings plan overview listing each transaction with date, amount, price, quantity and holdings

This is what you enter:

Date: August 26, 2024

Price: €2,337.80 (market price of the gold coin at the time of purchase)

Shares: 0.0428 (fractions of the whole coin bought)

Total: €100* (amount of the monthly savings plan)

Manual buy form for the savings plan coin: price 2,337.8 EUR, shares 0.0428, total 100.05784 EUR

*The reference price of €2,337.80 times 0.0428 shares comes to €100.06, so not exactly €100. That’s because dealers state the number of shares with only a few decimal places (here rounded from 0.042775). We therefore recommend entering the total and the number of shares exactly as they are in reality and letting Parqet calculate the price automatically. This way, the amount paid from the account is correct too. If taxes or fees were incurred, you can enter them in the details.

The same buy form with the total set to 100 EUR; Parqet calculates the price automatically (2,336.45 EUR)
