Allocation analysis: breakdown by asset class, sector, industry, region and country

How Parqet breaks down your portfolio by asset class, product type, sector, industry, region and country and what the percentages refer to

Written by Niklas Klamm

The allocation analysis is available with a Plus or Investor subscription.

The allocation analysis shows how your portfolio is spread. This lets you see whether a company, an industry or a country makes up a large part of your portfolio.

Where can I find the allocation analysis?

  1. Open your portfolio, a view or the Overview.

  2. Click “Analysis” in the sidebar.

  3. Open the “Allocation” tab.

In the mobile app, open “Analytics” and tap “Allocation”.

“By asset” chart

At the top, you can see each holding with its share of the total value. Cash is included. With the “Parqet X-Ray” toggle, you can break down ETFs and funds into individual stocks. More on this: Parqet X-Ray: breaking down ETFs and funds into individual stocks

More allocations

Under “More allocations”, you choose how Parqet breaks down your portfolio:

  • Asset class: what you invest in, for example stock, bond, cash or commodity

  • Product type: how you invest, for example stock, ETF or fund

  • Sector: for example Information Technology or Health Care

  • Industry: the finer breakdown within a sector, for example IT Services

  • Region: for example Europe, North America or Asia

  • Country: the companies’ country

  • Company size: by market capitalization. More on this: Analysis by company size

  • Currency

The difference between asset class and product type is explained in Asset class and product type: what’s the difference?

If you click an entry, for example a sector, you can see the holdings behind it and their share.

What do the percentages refer to?

  • Asset class and product type: the total value, i.e., including cash and all other assets. The center of the chart says “Total”.

  • Sector, industry, region, country, company size and currency: only your securities. Cash, crypto, precious metals, real estate and other assets aren’t included there. The center of the chart says “Securities”.

“More allocations” with the “Region” tab open: “Securities” in the center, the shares of Europe, North America, Asia and other regions on the right

Example: your portfolio has €10,000 in stocks and ETFs and €90,000 in cash. If €9,000 of your securities is in US companies, the “Country” tab shows 90% for the US. Relative to the entire portfolio, it’s 9%.

Parqet doesn’t include holdings with a negative position.

How do ETFs and funds count?

Parqet includes ETFs and funds proportionally based on their composition. A global ETF is therefore spread across many sectors, industries and countries. You don’t need to turn on X-Ray for this. The composition data comes from external data providers. For ETFs and funds, the data providers only supply sectors, not industries. In the “Industry” tab, Parqet therefore assigns each sector share to a fixed industry. Information Technology, for example, appears as “IT Services”. For ETFs, the industry view is therefore less detailed than for individual stocks.

If data is missing for a fund, its share appears under “Other”. More on this: X-Ray shows incomplete or outdated data

Which standard does Parqet use to assign sectors and industries?

Parqet classifies companies according to MSCI’s Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS). GICS divides companies into sectors and further divides each sector into industries.

Common questions

A security is in the wrong sector or industry.

Suggest a change on the security page. The steps are described in My security’s industry classification is incorrect.

Why don’t the countries add up to my portfolio value?

Countries, sectors and regions only include your securities. Cash and other assets are missing there.

I don’t see the allocation analysis.

The allocation analysis is available with a Plus or Investor subscription. If your view is empty, Parqet shows “No active holdings”.
