Parqet X-Ray: breaking down ETFs and funds into individual stocks

What X-Ray shows, how to turn it on and which funds X-Ray can’t break down

Written by Niklas Klamm

X-Ray is available with a Plus or Investor subscription, in the web app and the mobile app.

With Parqet X-Ray, you can see which stocks you’re invested in through your ETFs and funds. X-Ray combines these with the stocks you hold directly. This shows you how large your total exposure to a company is.

What does X-Ray show?

Without X-Ray, the allocation analysis shows each ETF as a single position. With X-Ray, Parqet breaks down every ETF and fund into its individual positions. If you hold a stock both directly and through ETFs, X-Ray adds both together.

Example with rounded index weights: your portfolio consists of 60% FTSE All-World ETF, 30% S&P 500 ETF and 10% Apple shares. With X-Ray, Apple comes to about 14.3% instead of 10%. Apple is also in both ETFs.

  • X-Ray uses the current value of your holdings.

  • The percentages refer to the total value of the view, including cash and other assets.

  • X-Ray combines all cash holdings into the position “Cash”.

  • X-Ray shows the 100 largest positions individually. X-Ray combines all smaller positions into one row, for example “2,340 more positions”.

Turning on X-Ray

In the web app:

  1. Open your portfolio, a view or the Overview.

  2. Click “Analysis” in the sidebar.

  3. Open the “Allocation” tab.

  4. Turn on the “Parqet X-Ray” toggle to the right of “By asset”.

Allocation analysis with the “By asset” chart and the “Parqet X-Ray” toggle turned off at the top right

The chart now shows individual stocks instead of ETFs. If you click a stock, you can see which holdings its weight comes from.

Parqet X-Ray turned on: the ETF is broken down into individual stocks such as Apple and NVIDIA, with “Export as CSV” at the top right

In the mobile app, open “Analytics” › “Allocation” and turn on “Parqet X-Ray” there.

X-Ray works in every portfolio, every view and the Overview. In a view, X-Ray combines all holdings in that view.

Downloading the full list as a CSV file

  1. Turn on X-Ray.

  2. Click “Export as CSV”.

The CSV file contains all positions, including the small positions from the combined row.

Which funds can’t X-Ray break down?

  • ETF or fund without data: X-Ray shows it as a whole. A note next to the position explains this.

  • Partially broken down: A note shows what percentage of the fund X-Ray breaks down. The rest is usually a liquidity reserve or a portion without data.

  • Swap ETFs (synthetic ETFs): X-Ray shows the composition of a physically replicating ETF on the same index.

  • Active funds: Active funds often disclose their holdings only once or twice a year. The data may therefore be incomplete or older.

  • Holdings with a negative position: X-Ray doesn’t include them.

The article X-Ray shows incomplete or outdated data explains why data is missing or outdated and what you can do.

What about sectors, industries and countries?

Under “More allocations”, you can see your portfolio by asset class, product type, sector, industry, region, country, company size and currency. Sector, industry, region and country always include ETFs and funds proportionally based on their composition. You don’t need to turn on X-Ray for this.

These allocations refer only to your securities. Cash and other assets aren’t included there.

Common questions

I don’t see the “Parqet X-Ray” toggle.

The allocation analysis and X-Ray are available with a Plus or Investor subscription. If you use the mobile app, update it to the latest version.

Can I use X-Ray for an ETF I don’t own?

No. X-Ray only uses the holdings in your portfolio. You can see an ETF’s largest positions on the ETF’s security page.

An ETF isn’t broken down, or only partially.

Data is missing for this ETF. Read the article X-Ray shows incomplete or outdated data.

Does X-Ray change my return or my data?

No. X-Ray is only an analysis. Your holdings, activities and metrics stay unchanged.
